s/art/q

I heard about a new contemporary art space in Sarasota that sounded cool. There’s a little (very little) info about a party there Friday night on their website, s/art/q but we’re booked for Friday night so we decided to just drive over there yesterday.

We found a generic warehouse/office park type building but there weren’t any signs. We drove around to the side of the building and spotted an open door.

Part of me doesn’t want to see the rest of the space now, because we think this was perfect just the way it is:

Seriously though, I do want to check this out next time I’m here. Here’s some info off their website:

swoooooosh

That was the sound of the last few days rushing by. In between all the crazy of the final artist-deinstallation weekend Husband and I have managed to catch a few Fringe shows.

The Foley Artist, which we wedged into yesterday afternoon, lacked polish but was amusing and had lots of potential. And it was about a sound guy and started with bee jokes so I had a soft spot for it. Plus, it wasn’t a musical, so it also had that going for it.

Today we saw Ed Hammell’s excellent one-man show The Terrorism of Everyday Life. I highly recommend that one, which repeats next weekend, although I’m too lazy to click back onto the link I just posted in order to verify that information. I’m very tired, you’ll have to fend for yourself a bit.

Sadly, we had to sacrifice live-music this weekend, which meant no Samantha Murphy at IOTA last night and no Tortoise at the Black Cat tonight.

I haven’t decided whether to take the computer with me to la florida this week. Might be a while til I see you again so behave yourselves!

Free Range Crazy, Knitting,

Oh my but do I have stories for you, kids. Right now, however, I have a headache, I need a shower, and I need to head to Artomatic for a manager’s shift. Artomatic is closed to the public now. Only participating artists are allowed in the building right now and they must show ID. Photo ID. Legal photo ID.

I finished the Sunkist Cardi today, after it dries and I sew the button on it I’ll post pictures. I don’t think I’ll take any knitting with me tonight. It’s too hectic to sit and knit while I manage and I really don’t think I should have sharp objects while I’m there. The temptation would just be too great. I’m pretty sure there are only so many times you can tell a grown man to get out of the dumpster before you completely lose it.

In the meantime, why don’t you check out the remarkable comments spawned by a post Ta-Nehsi Coates wrote about Mayo v Miracle Whip over at The Atlantic. It’s fun.

This is the end, my friends…

This is it, the last day of Artomatic 2009. By the 4th weekend we’d surpassed our previous visitor numbers. By the time this – our 6th, and final, weekend, began – we’d surpassed an attendance number the Board never thought possible. As soon as we release the numbers, I’ll post them.

In the meantime, you have 10 hours left to take in all of the sites, sounds, and, increasingly, smells, of Artomatic. When the event closes tonight there’s an after-party at Molly Malone’s. It’s not over ’til George Koch sings.

Then, you can get a couple day’s rest before Thursday night’s Capital Fringe Festival kickoff.
