finals + fighting koalas (and never the two shall meet)

If you have a final research project proposal to write and you’ve been editing some drafts of blog posts about it that are helping you organize your thoughts and remember how the project developed, that doesn’t count as procrastination!

Watching a video of koala bears fighting, however, does qualify as procrastination. Just so we’re clear.

Creepy.

Back to my project proposal…and those blog posts…maybe I’ll even get one posted tonight or tomorrow.

Crowley

I love Spring. I love birds. I do not love the bird who sings at top volume in the tree outside my office window. He is Hell personified. He is, in fact, the King of Hell.

Perhaps I’ve been thinking too much about Supernatural lately as I work on my presentation for the Pop Culture Association conference. No, definitely not.

This bird is a lunatic.

He must have a tiny avian PA up in that tree – no bird can be that loud. He shall henceforth be known as Crowley.

I’ll record him for your enjoyment some day soon….

[edited to correct the Supernatural wiki link]

Corvids

I’ve been under the weather and spending most of my time in bed of late, though I managed to attain just enough lucidity Saturday night to watch the Dark Night Rises.

It was too long, too predictable, and would have made me angry if I’d had any energy to spare. Nevertheless, it served me well as a pop culture reference point when I happened to check twitter last night during the Super Bowl, which I wasn’t watching, and was startled to see jokes about Bane blacking out the Superdome suddenly over-running my feed. Husband had the game paused on the Tivo, so we caught up enough to marvel at the power outage, then I lost interest and went back to my feverish funk.

Consequently, I have nothing clever (or otherwise) to say about the game. Frankly, even if I’d watched it I’d have nothing clever to say.

I do have a good link for you: Jason Goldman’s Seven Things You Didn’t Know About Ravens: Superbowl Edition, on his Scientific American blog, The Thoughtful Animal.

Slither

Speaking of unleashing things into Rock Creek Park, I thought I’d post a link to the story about the python that showed up in Rock Creek Park this week. It’s a nice change of pace from obsessing over all of the exotic invasives in the Everglades, I guess. Speaking of which, if you haven’t had a moment of horror over this monster, you should really take a break out of your busy schedule of reading my site and drinking coffee. “UF Researchers find state record 87 eggs in largest python from the Everglades.”
