Bebe Barron has passed away. Barron, with husband Louis Barron, composed the first soundtrack of electronic music for a feature film, the 1956 release, (Forbidden Planet).
NPR ran a 9 minute piece about them a few years ago, “The Barrons: Forgotten Pioneers of Electronic Music” (You can listen to the story or just listen to the sound clips at that link).
I’m devastated to learn that Paw Paw has gone to the great dog park in the sky. It broke my heart when I heard, and reading [tag]Martha[/tag]’s blog post and looking at the pictures made me sad all over again. The picture of Francesca and Sharkey paying their last respects to [tag]Paw Paw[/tag] at the burial ceremony wrecked me all over again.

…the Super Pilot Action Figure Guy, of course, and put him in a wedding dress and marry him off to your Charlton Heston Action Figure?
(For the record, I was apparently the only one who harbored that particular fantasy).
I had to edit this post. Samer is still groovy, of course, but Dremo’s closes on the 26th, not tonight, the 19th.
I’ll just round out photography week by pointing to [tag]Samer[/tag]’s latest [tag]dcist[/tag] photo of the day, which he brilliantly titled “I am not the Sushi you seek.” It was taken at [tag]Dr. Dremo[/tag]’s, which tragically closes next Saturday, the 26th, (technically, 2 a.m. on Sunday).
Monday (the 28th), they’re auctioning everything off so if you want to preserve a piece of the place for posterity you’d better get there early. Yes, that even includes the totem pole.
CNN reported that [tag]Vampira[/tag] ([tag]Maila Nurmi[/tag]) died.
I haven’t seen [tag]Vampira: The Movie[/tag], so I can’t vouch for it, maybe you should watch [tag]Plan 9 from Outer Space[/tag] in tribute.
