Since October, police have reported a substantial

increase in the number of investigations concerning

illegal immigrants working in Iceland.

Reports indicate that immigration officers have run

investigations on 300 different individuals thought to

be illegally employed, outside of the Schengen

Agreement.

According to the chief of police for immigration,

Fridrik Gunnarsson, the department has been getting

“more and more tips” on illegal workers since Iceland’s

economic slowdown.
