Saturday things get even wackier.
Stacie’s having her grand opening event at her great store, [tag]The Remix[/tag], now on [tag]Barracks Row[/tag]. Fashion. Art. Whatever. (I’m so sad I can’t walk over to the Del Ray shop anymore when I need to get my taffeta on, but the new store is only minutes away, and nicer so I’ll get over it).
I’m sure by now you’ve purchased you tickets for the grand re-opening of [tag]Buzz[/tag] which is taking place on the 21st, they’ll surely be sold out by the end of the weekend so hurryhurry. Plus, you’ll need to budget time for that endlessly recurring conversation that can be boiled down to:
“[tag]Moby[/tag]? He’s so over.”
“I. Know.”
“You going?”
“Duh.”
“Me too.”
Glowsticks sold seperately.
But back to this weekend…
Saturday night there’s an opening reception for All in the Family: A Juried Show of American University Alumni at the [tag]Katzen Center[/tag]. I can’t remember who else has told me they’re in the show besides [tag]Thom Flynn[/tag], but that leads me to the next event:
Thom Flynn’s curatorial debut, Peer Pressure, opens at Nevin Kelly Gallery.
Peer Pressure: Guest Curated by Thom Flynn Featuring the Work of Sue Huang, Carrie Mallory, Baby Martinez, and Pascual Sisto
Local artist and guest curator Thom Flynn has assembled a group of his peers to size-up contemporary trends in art. The exhibit will feature artists Sue Huang (LA), Carrie Mallory (DC), Baby Martinez (DC) and Pascual Sisto (LA). Flynn chose the title “Peer Pressure” to demonstrate the positive potential of a concept that is generally perceived as negative.
There’s also the [tag]Alexandria Festival of the Arts[/tag] in Old Town Saturday and Sunday and [tag]Adams Morgan Day[/tag] on Sunday.
If you’re post-cool and want to avoid crowds of hipsters, you can head to [tag]Havre de Grace, Maryland’s[/tag] 20th Annual [tag]Duck Fair[/tag]. I’ve never been to the Decoy Museum, but I used to have some great items from the gift shop thanks to old roommate Bob. As I discovered on Tuesday, Havre de Grace is a cute little town, with a very fine [tag]Waffle House[/tag]. (I emailed Dr. Birdcage from said Waffle House to inform her we must return to said town for a photo safari).
Personally, my choice for the weekend was to go see the Dyslexic Chicken but I wore myself out with the inlaws.
I wanted to take her some orange juice, but I hear she’s very particular about that kind of thing.
I can get behind post-cool to describe what it clearly describes, but is there a better term for people like me, to wit: the pre-cool?
Am I a Nerd Realist? A Natural Dork?
I need a name for my movement! Label me!
LABEL ME!!!
*ahem*
Going away now…
Hmmm. Going to have to think on that one. In the meantime, I want you to back away from the coffee pot.
In the immortal (albeit paraphrased) words of T.J. Hooker: Just put the mug down slowly, son, and no one will get hurt.
