One of the problems with living in one’s own little self-indulgent world is that it can take significant effort to keep up with what other people are doing. Other times the news just lands in your lap.
I just opened the May/June 2004 issue of Punk Planet. Scanning the table of contents, the first piece that caught my eye was titled “Saying goodbye to Sarah Jacobson.”
It’s not like Sarah and I were bestest galpals or anything. We just had a passing acquaintance, but she gave me tons of great advice and the occassional kick in the rear I so desperately needed. I always thought it was so damned cool that she and her mom had a film company together.
I can’t believe I didn’t know about this. She died back in February.
There’s a nice piece about her on indiewire and a small blurb in the Village Voice.
I’m still just shocked. If you haven’t seen her work, seek it out.
