Revenge of the Creature

We had a row of trees planted along the side of our yard.

The trees looked too austere all in a row, with nothing else around them. I’m up to my ass in Shasta Daisies and Coneflowers so I did some transplanting.

In the months since I moved them, the plants are doing extremely well and have been multiplying and flowering like wildfire.

All except one. One of them died.

I planted another one. That one died.

I amended the soil and planted again.

Tonight as the sun was starting to set on my yard we joked that some ancient evil had been buried in that small spot in the yard.

Then I remembered…something did happen there. That’s where I buried The Creature.

Terrific. Now I apparently need an opossum exorcist. Why is gardening so hard? Martha Stewart never warned me about this.

Found in a notebook

“If H.P. Lovecraft was the publisher of a shelter magazine there’d be a feature story about the importance of using crown molding at all wall-to-ceiling transitions because otherwise you run the risk of opening a pan-dimensional gateway.”

I don’t think I got a lot of work done in 2007. I think I’m starting to see why.

I posted this on Wednesday night on the MeatBlog since we’re on our way to a food conference, and it’s sort of about food. But then I decided to cross-post it here, because I can.

Back in 1999, your beloved MeatBlog Founders got hitched in Chapel Hill, NC. We had our post-wedding brunch with our witnesses/family at this Waffle House. Today while we were heading to Greensboro en route to Atlanta later in the week for BlogHer Food 11, we stopped at Our Waffle House.
