Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about the digital delivery of art. That said, I have many issues with itunes I won’t belabor here (but if I was going to, we’d start with DRM).
I also think the pricing structure of the TV shows they offer has some bugs ($1.99 per 12 minute episode of Adult Swim shows?). Tivo them, Cartoon Network shows them commercial free. Or buy the DVDs. Or get ’em from Netflix. Sure, a download eliminates packaging and affords near-instant gratification and the ability to take your entertainment with you, but $1.99 an episode? Compressed? And all DRM’ed up with limited places to go? That adds up fast.
I know, I know, Apple has all kinds of Big Plans for Convergence of All of Our Entertainment Needs In New and Exciting Ways and I should just bow down and shut up but the DRM thing, it bugs me. And the pricing. But mostly, honestly, the DRM.
But I digress…
It’s the new itunes movie download feature that really leaves me scratching my head. How high do you actually need to be before downloading a copy of The Hot Chick for $9.99 seems like a good idea?
Hell, I’m not sure how high I’d need to be before I’d watch The Hot Chick. For free.
