In several news stories about the guy who drove the
flaming truck around Dallas yesterday, they mentioned
something that I just can’t make heads nor tails of.
For instance, in this morning’s Washington Post, they
reported the following:
flaming 18-wheeler, loaded with lumber, a forklift,
plastic piping and at least one bucket full of nails,
for about an hour and a half yesterday as it careered
across highway interchanges, jumped median strips and
dodged police bullets, while the driver, an unidentified
man wanted in connection with a robbery, waved,
high-fived and honked at a growing crowd just outside
downtown Dallas — some of whom waved back.
High-fived? High fived? The guy was driving a
flaming semi and was able to high-five members of a
crowd watching? How does that work? I didn’t actually
get to see any of the action live, but this statement
creates a really bizarre mental picture for me. Can
someone please tell me, can you high-five without making
contact with the other person? Isn’t that just waving,
which is already mentioned in the article?
