I've never been called a nazi before

Today Washington City Paper’s Jessica Gould writes about Friday’s Artomatic no-show volunteers in the “No-Show Showdown”

One artist, who asked not to be named, says Artomatic’s steering committee amounts to an in crowd with privileges when it comes to exhibition space and installation schedules, complaining that the disciplinary e-mails for missed shifts were too harsh. “I felt like the art Gestapo was e-mailing me and calling me to tell me I missed my shift,” the artist says.

[you should really go read the whole piece]

I have more comment but am going to hold those comments until later because I need a nap.

Honestly, those no-show people suck. If you know the rules when you sign up for something, then follow them or don’t participate. It’s all this free publicity for them and they can’t handle a couple of hours a few days? I say fuck ’em and ban ’em the next time around.

Not knowing if I could commit to the volunteer schedule is a huge part of why I didn’t exhibit at Artomatic, this year. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull it off, and I’m not going to make a commitment and then not show up.

People should have personal responsibility. They know the deal, and you should dock them their deposit.

Alas, there is no deposit. Maybe there should be…except that just gives those who can afford to a way to ditch their responsibilities. People can pay others to take their shifts, we’re cool with that. Maybe some enterprising artists should start a business….still, that ruins the community aspect.

Next time, the dyslexic chicken runs the volunteer program. That’ll teach ’em!

Sooner than you might imagine, I will be available and local. 2-3 years, and you’ll be showing me around the nabe. And, of course, how to avoid and/or assassinate Nutjob Kaboom.

XO, hope things are calming down for you.
