Animal rights groups don’t exist in China…the lengths the Chinese go to exploit animals for publicity, entertainment, etc. is mind-boggling. At zoos they throw things at them and worse. Only the panda preserve seems to be excluded from this sort of thing. The one I went to was the only animal-related place that was well-run and the animals seemed well-cared for.
The taunters get eaten. Or at least mauled to death.

One of my former colleagues (not at the library) had a job in college in China (she was a National and deeply paranoid, so I’m leaving out details) giving the monkeys electroshock treatments. Daily. For the entertainment of the visitors. It was very popular to watch the monkeys shambling around drunkenly afterwards. That was actually the least upsetting story she shared.

p.s. my monkey story is second-hand (tho she was very upset in the recounting of it and I have no reason not to believe her) and is 10 years old. Just as a disclaimer.

we’re not exactly kind to animals here. At least when Americans taunt the animals they get eaten.
