We meet all kinds of interesting people at music conferences and pho dinners and stuff. One of these cool women manages the business affairs of George Clinton (Parliament, Funkadelic and The P-Funk Allstars).

I’ve always thought that must present all kind of fun and interesting challenges, not the least of which is untangling all of the bad deals, uncredited samples, and who knows what else. Despite all I know about the history 20th Century music, the recording industry, and pop culture, I had no idea until this morning that the Mothership has been missing since 1982.

You really must read this article, “In Maryland, George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic and a missing Mothership.” This is important stuff and it belonged on the front page of the Washington Post. This is the Mothership we’re talking about, after all!

Clinton & his compatriots are at the 9:30 Club tonight and it’ll no doubt be an amazing show, but I’m sad to say we’re going to sit this one out.
