I was pleased to read “Unplugging the Addiction To Information Overload: Professor Urges Protection of Psychic Space, Quiet Time” on today’s Washington Post. This part was of particular interest to me:
Levy is fed up and starting Monday night — with the help of cardiologists, monks, storytellers, hypertext editors, Zen masters and a choir — he is doing something about it. He has organized a conference here called “Information, Silence and Sanctuary,” which will diagnose and prescribe treatment for what is ailing Levy — and, in his view, most of the developed world.
Interesting stuff. I like to end my digital culture class – after a whole semester of overloading them with information – with David Shenk’s Data Smog:Surviving the Information Glut, which always provokes lively discussion.
